    Bake a Cake This Halloween!

    Bake a Cake This Halloween!

If you are having a Halloween party this year, you might want some other dessert besides fun sized candy bars. A Halloween cake makes a great dessert, and can also be a fun centerpiece on your dinner table while the meal is being served. Here are two creative Halloween cakes that you can try on your own. Don’t feel pressured to limit yourselves to these – you can always create your own Halloween dessert masterpieces.

    The Happy Pumpkin

You can easily turn your everyday cake mix into a pumpkin creation with the help of bunt pans and decorative icing.

Take 3 boxes of your favorite white or yellow cake mix, and mix according to package decorations. Pour the batter into two bunt pans, and bake according to package decorations. Allow the cakes to cool completely and remove from the pan.

While you are waiting for the cakes to cool, empty three cans of vanilla frosting into a mixing bowl. If you are pretty practiced with cake decorating, 2 may be enough, but three cans will allow extra to work out unevenness and fingerprints. Add red and yellow food coloring to the frosting, stirring until the frosting becomes the desired orange color for your pumpkin. Frost the flat side of the bunt cakes, and then stack on top of each other to create your pumpkin shape. Then continue to frost the sides of the cake until you have an orange pumpkin.

If you would like to turn your pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern, simply use some black icing to draw your eyes, nose, and a mouth. You can also consider decorating a small cupcake with brown or green icing to create a stem. If you are very practiced in cake decorating, consider some pumpkin vines down the sides and back. Your company is sure to be impressed.

    The Creepy Spiderweb

If you want something a little spookier for your Halloween party, consider a creepy spider web cake. A little frosting and a chocolate muffin can help you make this creepy cake.

Take one box of your favorite chocolate cake mix and mix it according to the package decorations. Bake in two round pans and allow to cool completely.

While the cakes are cooling, scoop 2 cans of vanilla frosting into a large mixing bowl. Combine yellow and blue food coloring (or yellow and green) until you come up with a spooky green color. Spread a layer between the two cakes, and the cover the rest of the cake with frosting.

Draw a spiderweb on the top of the cake using black icing. You can start by drawing lines straight across as though the cake was a clock – from12 to 6, 1 to 7, 2 to 8, etc. Then starting at the center of the cake, draw larger circles working their way outwards until the web is complete.

Take a chocolate muffin or cupcake and cut of the “stem” so you are left with the top. Frost the entire thing with chocolate frosting and then roll in chocolate sprinkles. Set onto the “web” and attach small pieces of black string licorice to be the legs.

If you would like to get even more creative, you can extend your web down the sides of the cake, and draw on bugs using different colored icing.

With a few cake decorating skills and some creativity, you too can create spooky Halloween desserts.

Oh how we envy those cakes that just make us want to run and get the old Kodak or whatever camera we happen to have laying around the house. We imagine being able to come up with decorating ideas like that. Well, it’s easier than you think. With a few simple tricks, you TOO can be decorating cakes just like a pro. Keep reading to learn some really cool tips.

One of the keys to a really great looking cake is the cake icer tip. I strongly recommend getting a number 789 icer tip. You absolutely cannot tell the difference between a cake YOU decorated with this tip from a cake decorated by a pro. Yes, you need a steady hand too, but the tip is going to make all the difference in the world.

What about those cupcakes that seem to spiral up to the clouds? You now the kind I’m talking about. They are really so easy to make. All you need to do is get yourself a star decorating tip. Hold it about a quarter inch above the cupcake at a 90 degree angle to the cupcake surface. Start at the outer edge and pipe out some icing all around the outer edge. Then, simply pull the tip away, bring it inside the outer circle and pipe another circle inside the outer one. If you like, you can pipe another circle inside the inner one if there’s room. I told you…simple.

What if you have a pattern that you want to use for your cake? This is so simple that it’s a joke. What you do is actually ice the pattern itself. Put the pattern on the back of a cookie sheet and start piping the icing onto it, making sure you put a disposable decorating bag over it first. Then, all you need to do is turn the bag over, with the design on it, and place it over your cake. When you’re done, lift the bag off the cake and the design will be transferred. Yes, it’s THAT simple.

Anthony Sages – This 3D printer makes edible food

Anthony Sages – This 3D printer makes edible food

A 3D food printer sounds like anything out of Star Trek, but it’s not out of this globe. It’s up and running at the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan — and in five many years, it could be in your residence.

As aspect of a venture at Cornell University, a group of scientists and students developed a 3D printer and started testing it out with meals. The system attaches to a personal computer, which operates as the “brain” behind the know-how.

It doesn’t search like a conventional printer; it’s a lot more like an industrial fabrication machine. Users load up the printer’s syringes with raw food — anything at all with a liquid consistency, like soft chocolate, will perform. The ingredient-filled syringes will then “print” icing on a cupcake. Or it’ll print a thing additional novel (i.e., terrifying) — like domes of turkey on a cutting board.

“You hand [the personal computer] three bits of info: a form that you want, a description of how that shape can be created, and a description of how that materials that you want to print with performs,” says Jeff Lipton, a Cornell grad student operating on the venture. Lipton is pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.

The undertaking arrived out of Cornell’s Fab@Household venture, headed up by affiliate professor Hod Lipson. Started in 2005, the undertaking aims to develop do-it-by yourself variations of machines that can manufacture custom objects on-need. The group started out experimenting with foods fabrication in 2007.

Lipton thinks foods printing will be “the killer app” of 3D printing. Just like video clip video games fueled demand for private computers 30 many years in the past, he thinks the lure of feeding Grandma’s cookie recipe into a printer will aid individual fabricators increase beyond the geek crowd.

“It’s actually heading to be the upcoming phase of the digital revolution,” he says.
:00 /2:223-D meals printer helps make dessert

David Arnold, director of culinary engineering at the French Culinary Institute, has been testing out the know-how given that October 2009. He loves the experimentation it would make achievable.

“One of the main points I hope this machine will let us do is make new textures that we couldn’t get otherwise,” he says. “This is the very first time I’ve actually witnessed this transpire.”

That could draw in chefs and restaurateurs. But Arnold also thinks a 3D meals printer will have mass appeal.

“This would be a slam dunk for cookies at vacation time,” he says. “Something that needs a large level of precision that individuals don’t normally have with their hands, in terms of producing icing or decorations, this factor can carry out amazingly very well.”

Since it’s an academic undertaking, the 3D meals printer isn’t commercially readily available — however. The Fab@House venture has the blueprints for free on-line, and dedicated hobbyists can use them to create their individual. A single retailer, nextfabstore.com, provides an assembled version for sale — beginning at a mere $ three,300.

Entrepreneur Jamil Yosefzai ideas to be on the forefront of commercializing the technology. His New York City-based mostly startup, Essential Dynamics, is operating on a edition that can be offered to the initially wave probable prospects: pastry chefs and tech early adopters.

Yosefzai thinks his model of the printer will kinetically retail for all-around $ one,000, but he expects that value tag to finally fall to 0 or so. And he predicts that the technologies could turn into a family staple inside of a decade.

“It arrives down to comfort stage, and that will increase as the [technologies] goes far more and a lot more into schools and everywhere else,” he says. “Kind of like computer systems — the kids picked it up very first, then the parents picked it up, and as soon as everyone has an acclimation to it, they’ll be printing left and suitable.”

85 year old man beaten, peppered for not pulling over soon enough

    http://www.infowars.com/articles/ps…_man_beaten.htm

85-year-old Man Beaten, Pepper-Sprayed By Police.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AP) — Police said they are investigating an incident in which an officer pepper-sprayed an 85-year-old man during a traffic stop.

Leon Nins said officer Michael Lee also beat him after he took too long to stop his car. Police deny that and say Nins attacked Lee.

Leaders of St. Paul’s NAACP chapter and St. Paul African American Leadership Council alleged that race was a factor. Nins is black.

Nins said at a news conference Thursday that he was bringing sandwiches and cupcakes to his wife during his daily visit to her nursing home December 27 when Lee tried to pull him over for having expired license tags.

Nins, a World War II veteran who stands about 5-feet-7 and weighs 145 pounds, claims Lee was angry that he didn’t stop his car right away.
“I told him, ‘If I’d have seen you, I would have stopped,”‘ Nins said earlier. “He got really mad about that. He told me to get in his car, and he started beating me on the leg and on the side of the arm. He pushed me down on the floor, and he was slamming the door on my legs.”

Nins was arrested and jailed for two days. The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office declined to charge him with a felony, but prosecutors still could bring a lesser charge.

Nins said he went to a hospital for treatment after his release.

Police reports said Nins did not stop for nearly a half mile after Lee began trying to pull him over.

St. Paul police Chief John Harrington confirmed that Lee used pepper spray to subdue Nins, but only after Nins refused to produce identification and began flailing at the officer.

“I do not believe (Lee) was acting with excessive force and I don’t have any intention of suspending him or moving him to any administrative assignment at this time,” Harrington said.

Question by J.B. Holiday: Why can’t ALL wars be as trivial as this one?
Cupcake Makers At War Over Dot-In-Circle Trademark

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Sprinkles Cupcakes, a California purveyor of mini-cakes beloved by Hollywood stars, has accused rival Famous Cupcakes of stealing its trademarked “Modern Dot” cupcake design to lure away clientele.

Sprinkles high-end pastries have made the rounds of U.S. media, from “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to “Nightline,” drawing locals and out-of-towners who regularly wait in long lines outside the company’s Beverly Hills store.

The company, which also runs stores in Texas and Arizona, accused Famous Cupcakes in a federal lawsuit filed on Thursday in Los Angeles of incorporating the “nested circle design” featured on Sprinkles cupcakes on Famous Cupcakes packaging, store decor, and “each and every page” of its website.

Unlike other cupcake imitators around the world who ceased using “Modern Dot” after being caught by Sprinkles, Famous Cupcakes has not responded to repeated requests to “promptly stop using its trademarked design,” the lawsuit said.

The owner of Famous Cupcakes, who said on its website she began selling cupcakes door-to-door at age 7 and believes “one cupcake is never enough,” could not be reached for comment.
